legislation
The UK's draft
climate change bill, the first of its kind in any country, was introduced in Parliament on 14 November 2007 and completed its passage through the House of Lords on 31 March 2008. It will shortly go to the House of Commons for consideration. The aim is to receive Royal Assent by summer 2008 (source
Defra). The bill aims to provide a clear, credible, long-term framework for the UK to achieve its goals of reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and to ensure that steps are taken towards adapting to the impacts of climate change.
The 2007
Energy White Paper set out the government's framework for action to address the challenges and manage the risks of climate change and energy security.
